the long goodbye

I started writing when I was twenty five. On a blog called Kafka on the Shore. I wrote on it for about three months. The writing was quite shoddy but the blog made me write. I'd be up at 3 in the night typing away trying to find a way to catch my floating thoughts. Did you know it's really hard to catch floating thoughts when it's so quiet? Anyway, I'd write about cooking and running and train journeys. But then one day the station came.

I woke up very late today. I splashed some cold water on my face, got a glass of grapefruit juice, and opened my laptop. I knew it was time to go. I've been thinking about leaving for a while now but I didn't think I would feel this sad. I gaze at the large tree outside my window and look back at the past three months. The forrest gump suite plays in the background. Kafka on the Shore had become a part of me. Except for very few people, almost everyone who read this blog didn't know who I was. But you guys still took the time to read my (sometimes very long) posts and to leave me comments. I would really enjoy reading the comments, even some of the crazy anonymous ones. So, thank you. It was because of you that I wrote so regularly. This is getting a bit too sentimental so I'm going to wind up.

I want to write a book some day. If I ever manage that, I'll look back at Kafka on the Shore and know that's where it all started. I might return in November though I'm not sure. Maybe here or somewhere else. If you'd like me to let you know when I start posting or where that somewhere else is, drop me an email at kafkaontheshore@rediffmail.com (or leave a comment if you can't be bothered) and I'll email you when I'm writing again.

Anyway, I'll be around.

Auf Wiedersehen.

This is A. I would feature in KOTS's posts, on and off. I really enjoyed reading KOTS. For his writing yes, for his humour, sure, but mostly, because when KOTS wrote the world became still for a while.

So, along with KOTS, I guess this is A signing off.

p.s: If any of the anonymous comments were really out there, it was probably me.
